Barriers to access, such as a lack of awareness, complicated eligibility criteria, and cumbersome application processes mean families miss out on public benefits.
In programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), for instance, only 87% of those eligible are estimated to actually be enrolled.
That leaves an additional estimated 81,000 individuals missing out on SNAP benefits alone
…and $151 million in funding that doesn’t reach the community.
Other programs like WIC, and Healthy Texas Women could provide further support to those in need.
Access to these benefits directly impacts families’ health, reducing food insecurity while increasing high school completion and lifetime earnings for children.
It can also put millions back into the Dallas economy and support the creation of thousands of new jobs.
